Yeah. I agree. I’m not in any guilds but I just thought people like me should show solidarity by unsubscribing.

Do you agree with, or would you encourage a general strike where we unsubscribe from all our streaming services until a deal is reached?

Personally, I don’t see a lever there. Unless India and the world were all saying they’d cancel Netflix, I don’t think 12,000 union members could damage the revenue or create leverage with subscription churn. Plus the writers want people to WANT Stranger Things to resume. I think shutting the faucet off at the source is the agreed upon action at this time and hopefully they’ll come back to the table soon. An actor strike could help. A director strike could’ve helped but they just signed a new deal.

I had to stare at that face --- and munch worse listen to her voice -- during my last contract negotiation in 2021. The only thing that made it bearable was watching Lindsay go at her. (And that it was on Zoom. One of the only times I was thankful for a zoom meeting.)

It’s wild that Lombardini said those things. That’s how she’s “negotiating”?!?

I used chatGPT to write two letters of recommendation this past week. It was incredibly helpful and a huge timesaver, but I did have to make a few changes to each letter. There were nuanced details that I wouldn’t expect an AI to get right. AI is a tool and should be treated as such, not as a replacement for a thinking, feeling human writer.

I hope I put this in the right place! I deleted it and reposted it because it looked like a reply to Janie’s reply. I don’t know how to do the Internet 🤗

Janie, I have an anecdote I want Paul to hear, but I don’t know where to put it. I don’t want you to need to relay it, that feels rude, but I also don’t know if I can start a thread or whatever... I don’t quite understand how social networking happens. Haha I left a voicemail for Threedom today also saying this, that I have an amusing anecdote involving PFT. Also, it truthfully might be more amusing to me than it will be for him 😜

It goes well beyond just entertainment writers too. My degree is in advertising and I've worked as a creative writer for close to 20 years now. I cannot begin to tell you how anxious it makes me to see my company and so, so, so many others holding AI training seminars. Writers in all industries have been undervalued for far too long. So to see all of this happening is devastating.

If we allow this to happen to the writers who create the stories, characters, and series we cherish, it'll be a house of cards for writers in every other industry as more and more companies start to say, "Well, Hollywood is doing it. Why can't we?"

The writers have my full and undying support.

Janie! You're actually a great person to ask this question. I travel to NYC every few weeks because my girlfriend currently lives there. I was thinking of setting some time aside to go join the picket line when I visit next week. But, I wasn't sure how people feel about that. Is it encouraged for non-WGA supporters to join the line? Or is that frowned upon?
