Strong opening. Been looking forward to this after This Week. Plus little dog is unwell at the moment so you can distract me while I wait for the vet to open
SLIPPER ALERT. Mahabis? I’ve not tried them (and am not affiliated, I just get a lot of ads) but I think the sole is removable so you can wash them/click them on to go outside and off to go on the sofa. They look expensive… maybe ask to an ad???
Another vote for Glerups! They've got a couple of constructions that might work for slipping on and off easily. I've had mine for just under a decade and they're still going strong without any smell.
Speaking of Crocs, I actually haven't owned slippers in years, but I do have my around-the-house Crocs. Last winter I bought hiking socks for indoor use only, too. So, Paul could always try that method of ultra extra warm socks combined with the reasonably soft-yet-supportive regular style Crocs! Both washable separately!
I’m gay and disabled in KS. I’m married 26 years and receive no disability. Our retirement plans are strained because of my disability. Mine are utterly dependent on receiving his social security (he is 18 years my senior).
Their plan calls for overturning the Obergefell marriage equality in addition to all the other insanity.
I’ve been devastated and thoroughly affected to my core. It feels as tho a matter of time until my life is invalidated and the tenuous future plans made are completely impossible now.
Thanks for the episode. It’s been a nightmare week.
What about the crocs with fuzzy parts for a slipper? I believe they are removable to wash the fabric part. I wash my plain crocs in the washer with towels and the get back to new.
But DO NOT PUT CROCS IN THE DRYER they will shrink.
I had a pair of the lined Crocs for awhile, but the liner wasn't removable, and it got kind of smushed pretty quickly, so it wasn't even really like a soft slipper inside anymore. I eventually tried to remove it, and was able to, but it was glued down in a way that I had to just cut it all apart. The remaining Crocs are still wearable, but it turns out that they don't have the same soft plastic layer that regular Crocs have. So, regular Crocs with either ultra warm hiking socks or ultra soft slipper socks is the system I go with now!

Thank you, PFT and Janie! What a terrific episode. I literally laughed out loud at least a half a dozen times. 😂😂😂 My favorite 2 moments were: 1) when Janie, out of the blue, began shouting, “You get a tariff, and you get a tariff! …” Hilarious. And 2) when Paul categorically rejected Janie’s suggestion that they title this podcast “Heil Donald.” I just love to hear the two of you laugh! It’s infectious.
You should definitely add a “When in doubt, freak out” t-shirt to your Kinship Goods merch.
Is the “dirty fantasy genre” you are thinking of called “hot flush noir”? I’m all for your impulse of creating more comfort content. Please do. We all need to laugh and smile a whole lot more. Besides your podcast, I’ll tell you a couple of things that gave me joy and made me smile and laugh recently were Chappell Roan’s performances on SNL, and the video short that was also part of the show. It’s okay to laugh, people!
I don’t think “romantasy’s” are usually “dirty” or erotic, Megan. It’s my understanding that the “hot flush noir” is a genre that specifically deals with erotic menopausal romances, which I believe is what “All Fours” (the book Janie is reading and recommended) would be considered. But I kinda like Janie’s term “pant fant,” lol. 😂
Got it, Megan! I hear they’ve already banned the ACOTAR books in North Carolina and Utah, because they are too “naughty” for their puritanical overlords. They should ban Project 2025 instead!
I agree with you Paul & Janie. It doesn’t seem plausible that this person’s cardiovascular system could withstand much more. What scares me is that leaves us with the little boy with mommy issues. I truly believe he is the worst of this.
Paul, if it doesn’t gross you out to do this, put your slippers in a plastic bag and put them in the freezer overnight or over a weekend. It’s not perfect, but it will definitely help with the smell.
Hey Janie and Paul -- I have not listened yet. Not sure if it will make me feel better or not.
I have not tuned into news since that night. I haven't been a big social media person except fort instagram. (I am still scrolling through cat, tortoise and cute baby reels). Instead I am reading books, watching movies and TV I have missed. And building Lego. I am disengaging from current events right now -- and my mood has improved and anxiety and anger has all but disappeared.
I was sooooo looking forward to letting all the madness, sadness and hate of the past 8 years go. But I guess I got to be in charge of that. For now I will sit on top of the mountain and meditate. But I am standing by -- ready to resist and join whatever fight that lies ahead (Is fight the right word?)
And I am going to go back to listen to all the watch-alongs I "never had time for." I suddenly realize I do and would prefer that over doom scrolling. Especially now that the doom has actually arrived. You got many of us through the pandemic and I am sure you will do the same here (No pressure.) Love you guys. (In a platonic not too parasocial way.)
Might I propose the Bosnian slipper sock the priglavke? I had them growing up, and they are quite warm. They can also be designed to look like an Irish sweater. I couldn't find any retail links other then etsy: https://www.etsy.com/search?q=Priglavke&ref=search_bar
Honestly, I doubt this is actually helpful, but you talking about it made me want to get a pair.
This is the therapy we’ve been waiting for 🫶 stay safe, stay sane, stay rested, Homekins!

I’m so sorry your little dog is sick. Sending virtual scritches!
Thank you! The good news is the phone vet on Saturday said she’s happy for us to wait for Monday to go in so that is reassuring :)

“Ask to do an ad” yes I understand podcasting/showbiz. I get it all from the Threedom Crocs saga
I tried mahabis and found them meh. I love my Glerups! I have rubber soles so I can accidentally wear them to the grocery 😬

I would also suggest the lined crocs! Washable and slip on and you can pop on a Threedom not-jibbitz.

I am just shell shocked.
This episode could be a good definition of love.

I *think* the word they were looking for is "romantasy"

Janie was talking about hot flush noir. Paul made mention of the Sarah Maas ACOTAR series, which are, wait for it, Stephen, romantasy.
Got it, Megan! I hear they’ve already banned the ACOTAR books in North Carolina and Utah, because they are too “naughty” for their puritanical overlords. They should ban Project 2025 instead!
Paul just explained exactly how I feel in such an uncanny way that I joined the substack instantly.

Bombas!! Great grippy slippers for all. When in doubt, size up!
This truly was a classic Well That Just Happened
Love the comfort podcasts. My wife and I love the watchalongs.
