Ian McShane, not David Milch's first (or even third) choice for Swearengen. was always supposed to be Ed O'Neill in his mind but HBO said ixnay. worked out pretty well in the end (except for Ed)
Only just listening (gasp) and agree that we need a better version of “no solicitors” especially because I am a solicitor and it makes me feel unloved. I believe it’s a job in the US too (I think Janie was talking about a murder involving one last year…) but maybe less widespread
I don't think the name off the pub in Dublin with traditional live music was mentioned by name in the pod (unless I zoned out and missed it). My partner and I are heading there in about 10 days and we'd love to know where it is. Looking forward to some Irish weekend water with a side of song! Any hints would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the excellent podcastings!
Very excited for the watch along for Halloween! My favorite time of year. My work colleague sharing his plex server means I can watch some of the old ones I couldn't find the movies on my subscriptions!
I am from 🇬🇧 and found our general election this summer equally frustrating. They are with part of this system that needs to change ultimately. Now if anything we can see that is what's running the country as Biden isn't last few months! My two best friends live in Chicago so I always have my ears abd eyes on what happens.
I am enjoying Bluesky (threads is way too chaotic. meta's algorithms do not work for me) and still feel like I could be getting more out of it even after months being there. I have spent a lot of time in this journalism feed that makes me feel like I'm overhearing convos at my older sibling's college parties. In the best possible way. Here's a link if you want to try it (and it could lead you someplace better!). https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:24vva42nxim6zbcmnozegoef/lists/3kghwn26chi2v
This episode was GREAT! I was on Threads during the debate (live Threading?), and it was perfect. Follow Christopher Titus for some perfect (and funny) comments!
As an avid follower of whatisnewyork on Instagram I KNEW bugs were going to be involved in a Brooklyn sidewalk coffee machine. I thought you were going to say she got bedbugs at first. Roaches tend to infest warm electronics and appliances. It was dumped for a reason, yall!
For your No Solicitors sign, should get one of those scrolling marquee signs, you know like the ones on taco trucks. 😂
Appreciated Paul’s take on voting for “harm reduction”. That’s pretty much how I feel. Not excited about anyone but I’ll vote for the party that isn’t trying to reduce access to healthcare.
I’ve listened to you two for quite some time and deeply appreciate you sharing your thoughts and laughter after dinner (Weekend Water in hand) with us all!
I was at the Neighborhood Listen show during Sketchfest in SF, but was sad to not see Janie collaborate.
I’m about a quarter into this episode and was inspired to make a ringtone of the original trump tune.
Also, I truly doubt no one at that coffee machine company had nothing to say, share or nightmare.
I can't wait to finish this episode and plan on getting a year of paid subscription as a treat for my sanity during this year whilst we all balance the tightrope of mental health.
My partner recently had me set a screen time password on his phone so he’d be forced to stay off of X-Twitter. I don’t quite get how that works, because he still reads his phone, but I’m happy to support the cause.
Omg Paul is right about crickets! We pranked coworkers (when I was younger working at my fun job at mini golf arcade place…to go back to only needing fun job money!) and when they got my friends and me back….ugh! I went out to my car, they put ‘caution live animals’ signs on my Chevy cavalier…I open it up THEY WERE GD EVERYWHERE! Coming out of my air vents, under seats every single crevice. I had to set off a fogger (meant for a home…) that smell never left lol once I knew they were ‘gone’/dead…I was like “do large numbers of crickets, when together in a small space…smell like bacon?” Which is when I finally found the pizza ham they’d put under my seats. Thanks for reminding me of that, gotta be loved to be pranked (or I guess hated enough for revenge…woulda worked both ways!)
Right?! I agree with Janie, excessive and nightmarish. I have my own swarm story, about baby praying mantises. They hatched in a shower/bathtub in the country, the hill country to be precise, Wimberley TX, and I didn’t see them EVERYWHERE until I was naked, in the shower, with shampoo in my hair. They stare at you, praying mantii do… it was quite the experience, and I’ll never forget the absolute horror I felt at being surrounded by hundreds of teeny tiny, perfect, praying mantises. Some of them got washed down the drain accidentally.
I don’t remember if it was a Threevisiting on the Tues or a new Threedom, but Scottie Auks has a story about hundreds of frogs that I heard recently. Janie, you should ask Paul if you hadn’t heard it!!
Just wanted to pop in and say that Alan Zweig has made some of my favorite documentaries ever. I don't know how accessible any of them are outside of Canadian public television, but Records, Lovable, Coppers, A Hard Name, are all great.
I went on a mission to watch one before the recording last Spring! I could not access any of them. I’ll keep an eye out, though. Thank you for listening🙏🏼❤️
It looks like 'Records' is up on Youtube for free, but I think it's blocked internationally. So if you're ever in Canada, or have one of those VPN things, just search "records documentary" or "records tvo" and it should pop up. Really enjoy your podcast, cheers!
I am still lingering on Twitter and I do abhor the new ownership but I will say I never ever go to the For You tab and I think that saves me from 99% of the hell that exists on that site. For me it is mostly worse just because of the number of people I follow who left. And I support that decision fully.
I’m going to have to defend a fellow southerner here and point out that terpsichorean is in fact pronounced turp-suh-korean. Check out the pronunciation on google.
And I apologize for being the well-actually guy. Feel free to hate me. PEEcan for life! ✊

Omg! That is so wild! I love stories like these and Ian McShane really made such a powerful impression in that role. Epic!

Oh interesting! I’ll try to find out from those CBB folks but also HOW FUN!!!!!! 🇮🇪
Thanks, Janie!!!
Thank you for the Recovering Debs podcast recommendation, Janie! Very fascinating and educational!

Local politics is key I agree.
Re Paul’s thing about the ABBA VR people not breathing: was listening to a book this week and they talked about wow Walt Disney noticed the birds recent breathing in this exhibit at WDW. Neat observation, PFT! https://allears.net/2019/07/29/why-arent-they-breathing-the-true-story-behind-walt-disneys-enchanted-tiki-room/

Also the EPM discord. I probably spend even more time there, for the same feels.

I'm so excited about a Pacific Heights watch along!!!!!! Please make it so.

THAT SOUNDS EXCESSIVE!!! And nightmarish!!! 😱

Woulda been great revenge had we not pranked them first FOR SHO!

Boots on the ground perspective! 👍
It's not a southern thing. Merriam-Webster accepts both pronunciations, but prefers the one Janie used. Puh-NUT for life 🥜
Also, the greek Muse’s name is “Terp-siC-oh-ree”. 🤓
!!!
It took me a minute to realize what Paul was saying. Terp-si-core? Oh! Terpsichor-ee! lol
