I envision the “I Love My Grandtrees” shirt as an anthropomorphic half human/half tree grandma tree (canopy is curly grandma hair and of course she has glasses on a chain) side-hugging her little smiling grandtree. Also, I love my Kinship Goods Y’all sweatshirt so even though I run hot, I’d vote sweatshirt. It’s such a comfort item for me.

Desert Museum Palos Verdes are the best trees.

I have to say -- about plants and trees -- I just let them be. I get lots of baby houseplants when I go to Trader Joes (too many according to my wife) and do not even have a watering schedule. I water them when I remember. We have about 5 orchids around the house that are all 2 to 10 years old and they keep flowering -- and I forget about them A LOT as they are in bathrooms and out of the way nooks.)

The outside plants are on timers that I only switch around when the weather gets cooler. Or turn off it rains for a bit. And sometimes forget to turn back on...

As for outside plants and trees -- I also just dig a hole and plop them in. Nothing special. Maybe I get some mulch If I remember too. I never dig the hole "twice as wide as the root ball" as all the online folks say. Too hard. And in the 10 years I have been in this house I have used plants food probably 3 times. (I was bored and needed somethig to do.)

Basically. I am not a professional gardener or green thumb and no fatalities (yet)!

That Palos Verdes is gonna thrive. They need very little attention. Less is more I say. (Except when writing comments I guess.)

St. Paul, MN, fan here! It's been a crazy few days.

Re. sus roommate: Cops raided the house where Vance rented a room a few days/month to do "work" in the Twin Cities and broke the windows/doors before his roomie talked to reporters.

The stinky trees are Ginkgo trees.

Tip for small tree success, use a slow-release tree watering bag. With a small root structure, they need semi frequent slow watering and it sets you up for very easy watering. No forgetting to turn a trickling garden hose off.

I think you’ll also be pleasantly surprised how quickly your palo verdes tree!

Enjoy your week, both of you.

An aside, I met Paul last year in St Louis while wearing your Y’all Piggly Wiggly shirt. Meeting my CBB friends was extremely nerve wracking but Paul’s graciousness of “Oh, I love to see it!” regarding the shirt was such a small acknowledgement but put me at great ease. Will never forget that. It probably was nothing to him but was very welcoming for a very nervous neurodivergent. Was very appreciated and made me feel more confident, like I belonged there.

Trees - by Stephen Kilmer

I think that I shall never see, a grandchild so lovely as a tree

A tree whose lovely mouth is prest, against the Homekins backyard crest

A tree that looks at Paul all day, and wishes it could look so fey

A tree that may in Summer wear, a nest of cuckoos in her hair

Poems are made by fools like me, but only Janie loves a grandtree

* apologies to Joyce
