Y'all, when I was 24 and living in my hometown of Dallas, I joined a super high-end gym. One day, I decided to try what looked like a wild but fun dance class. I could not keep up but everyone else acted like it was easy. I took this as a challenge and kept going twice a week, never really getting better. A few weeks in, I hear 2 students talking and I asked if they worked together and it was like suddenly the entire room understood what was going on.
"Girl, we are the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders! Didn't you know that?!"
Every single one was either on the roster or recently off of it. I was literally the only lay person there.
They had always been nice to me, but after that, we were way more friendly. When I moved away, they threw me a little party after class (because I totally just kept going and it was tons of fun). But they all had so many jobs and were also working out like 4 hours a day BEFORE PRACTICE. Incredible respect to every one of them.
Pete Dexter lives in my city! He’s come back to the University of South Dakota (his alma mater) and teaches some creative writing classes. I think his Deadwood book influenced the Wild Bill movie.
Has anyone noticed that there are some eerie similarities between Stephen King’s “The Dead Zone” and our current presidential election, with Trump somewhat resembling the character of Greg Stinson, or is this just my liberal bias jumping to conclusions?

Well done, Janie and Paul. Another hilarious podcast! With regards to the current “climate” in our nation, it’s sad and sick that someone has already found a way to “monetize” the assassination attempt on Trump, within hours of the shooting.
In reference to Deadwood: Seth Bullock was a real person, as was Al, Jane, Bill and Tom Nuttal (many other prominent characters like Ellsworth were invented or pastiche)
Al Swearingin was actually the mayor, and sadly Jane Cannery ended up as a sex worker being exploited by him only a year after Bill's murder, a much darker life for her than the one in the show
(I could be mistaken, but I don't think real-life monster George Hearst was ever involved with the city?)
although David MIlch took some liberties with side characters, I believe most or all of the main cast were based on the actual historical figures. He camped out at the library in Deadwood for many weeks (months?) doing the research on its history before production started on the show.
lol. I couldn't haven't have made more of a mistake with this episode.
I listened to the first half, then paused when I read that Janie was going to talk about Ren Faire (which I'd never heard of). I went to stream Ren Faire so I could react with Janie and Paul. THEN I finished the podcast and heard her recommend NOT seeing it. WHOOPS!
Oh well, live and learn. Still happy to catch up with my fave couple. :)
BTW Ren Faire is exactly as Janie described. Overly produced, weirdly theatrical, and frustratingly about the wrong subject. I would have rather found out about the workings of a ren faire rather than a see hours of a creep abusing power.
OK THE EPISODE ISNT OVER YET BUT BOTH INSIDE OUT AND INSIDE OUT 2 ARE MUST WATCHES! I'm a therapist so I'm extremely biased but I love them and I love that these are movies kids are seeing but I will maintain these are movies for adults and perfect and amazing and please watch and tell us your reviews!!!
Janie, were you in the new Beverly Hills Cop movie? Just a brief scene in the hospital lobby? If not, she is your doppelgänger !
No, I wish! I saw it but didn’t see my double. I wonder who it was??
Okay…I also thought I saw you on Hacks in a QVC scene. 🎬
Ok, now THAT was me! Sellin' my wares as Betty!
I was laughing so hard at “DURRR”, I had to pull off to the side of the road and catch my breath. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤓
Oh that is too funny! 😂

“Fright Night Light Fight!”
…with Paul and Janie.” I missed this podcast in its short absence. Love you both.

Nothing feels surprising anymore. Crave more peaceful and civil times 😢
Every time Janie said durrr and Paul said ehh I was literally cracking up

Hearst in fact did buy the Deadwood mine!

I agree with Janie - it felt so fake to me. It’s like someone was inspired to make a real documentary after seeing a Christopher Guest movie.
TOTALLY
!!!!!!
Brightens my day to hear y’all’s voices! Also, I am IN love with the way Janie says “Australia”
🤣🤣🤣
Thank you. Addressing the terrifying political situation was so comforting for me. I am so scared. Your candor helped a lot. I love you, too.
When it boils down to it the Republican party and Democrat party are the almost the same. If you want to help enact real change act locally.
Unless you have a uterus. Then definitely pay attention to local and federal. And if you’re in a swing state 🙏🏻
"Durr" so stupid, I love it.
The Ren Fair doc sounds interesting. I'll check it out
"Durrr" as an active listening noise has me in TEARS. Thank you.
Incredible! Durrrrrrrrrr?
