Join me, please, on NIGHT COURT this week!
Inviting you to check out the NIGHT COURT revival on NBC (then PEACOCK) to meet my wacky character, Esther!
Check me out as “Esther” on NIGHT COURT (the recent revival of the beloved classic multi-camera sitcom), season 1 episode 13. It will air this Tuesday night at 8pm on NBC. And if you miss it LIVE and subscribe to NBC’s streaming service PEACOCK, it will be available there the next day and beyond for laughs, at your convenience.
It was such a pleasure and an honor to be a part of NIGHT COURT with this amazing cast. I grew up watching NIGHT COURT, and I was thrilled to do comedic acting with Emmy Winner John Laroquette! HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!!???
I’d be remiss to not thank my dear friend, the always great Kathryn Borel, who, in a pinch, taped my audition with me. Since she’s also a neighbor, she was able to swoop in to swiftly assist in getting my scenes recorded on my iPhone to submit to the quick casting request. If I were superstitious, I’d have Kathryn tape every audition I do, but I respect her way too much for that type of punishment! She’s such a talented television and film writer, she instantly helped me infuse so much energy and uniqueness to my audition and honestly think she’d be a force of nature as a director, if she chose that path. But, I digress…
The amazing Melissa Rauch plays the nepo babe judge in this new NIGHT COURT iteration, and I admire Melissa tremendously. She is one of the kindest human beings around. If I am ever that high up on a TV series cast call-sheet, I hope I can exude the warmth and respect Melissa extends to each and every human being on the set. Her magnanimous spirit, humility and poise is one to emulate.
Imagine my excitement when I was invited back as my character, Esther, for the season finale, (which will be episode 116.) I’ll be sure to send out a reminder to tune in to THAT episode as well (alongside some fun behind-the-scenes photos from that day with the great comedic actress and pal Jaime Moyer, who was brilliantly featured in an earlier episode as well as the finale!)
The show shoots on the Warner Brothers lot. I had the best dressing room I have ever had. There was strong wifi and a TV and my OWN BATHROOM. And I loved the very efficient AC that was running since it was summer in Los Angeles. Because of Covid protocols, I ate my lunch in my dressing room. Here is a sneak peak. That’s my sandwich from crafty.
Multi-cam shows are really the most enjoyable type of TV gig. Again, you always are in air conditioning or central heat. You audition with lines to a scene, then you rehearse all week with different lines, then by the day you shoot you have even DIFFERENT, funnier lines! It’s because the writers are closely following everything you rehearse, then they scramble to go make the scene play tighter or sharper or more specific. They may even throw you lines to “test out” during the rehearsal or the taping of the scene. My first day of rehearsal that week was kind of nostalgic with my GenX-self walking onto that recognizable version of the courthouse set! Well, of course I took a pic!
Here’s a photo from the NIGHT COURT wrap party in August ! My mom was visiting me from South Carolina, and since PFT was on the road doing comedy I took her along!! The party was beautiful. It was at the iconic sushi restaurant Yamashiro that overlooks ALLL of Hollywood.
Just me, standing above TINSEL TOWN, BABY!
Thank you so much for supporting the craft behind NIGHT COURT, should you decide to! I hope you like the episode and find joy in the comedy. The series has already been awarded a SECOND SEASON! It couldn’t have been a more satisfying ‘Actor Experience’ playing with such comedy pros.
I guess this weird life I lead is sometimes full of joyful surprises.
Congratulations Janie! I watched it on Peacock and your character was legit the highlight of the ep. I’m looking forward to seeing the finale and I hope they bring you back many times!
I will watch with bells on.
